There’s no denying, our company is made up of more than a few book lovers. It’s not uncommon to find a unique stack of books on the shelves of the offices that outline our new workspace, or to overhear a conversation in the lunchroom entailing “what are you reading right now?”.
It’s no surprise to me, given the fact that I am surrounded by so many sharp individuals every day at work, that I have on many occasions formed new friendships over a shared love of reading. Be it through inspiring conversations within our informal TN Book Club or the fact that I have yet to meet a True North employee that didn’t read and subsequently adore Fredrik Backman’s “Beartown”. I’m certain my battered paperback copy is still making its rounds from cubicle to office alike.
But that’s the power of reading: It connects us.
The True North Library was created with that in mind. An idea sparked in a Diversity and Inclusion meeting turned into an ever-growing list of books that inspired, motivated, changed and reassured both members of the D&I Committee and members of True North’s leadership group.
The books you will find within the library are hand-picked with intention to educate, create important conversations and to help us all become our best selves. They each fall into one of the categories of: Business & Leadership, In Her Words, Black Voices, Indigenous Writers, Climate Change, Social Issues, and Wellness. The library will expand, and your recommendations are always welcomed.
I sincerely hope that you find something that inspires you, and I look forward to hearing “what are you reading right now?” Even if you’ve never considered yourself a reader, there is something on the shelf for everyone to enjoy.
Happy Reading,
Your True North Librarian.
